GTA 4 and Red Dead Redemption remastered development has been halted to help with the development of GTA 6. Here are all details.
There’s both good and bad news for fans of the GTA franchise. Based on new leaked information, it is said that Rockstar Games has halted the development of the remastered editions of GTA 4 and Red Dead Redemption. The cancellation was mostly done after getting poor response on the remastered edition of the GTA Trilogy that was released last December. Adding to this, another report now says that Rockstar Games is focusing all its resources and efforts on GTA 6.
Tipster Tez2 says that, “As per a reliable source with clear accuracy on Rockstar plans, remasters of GTA IV & RDR1 were on the table a few years ago, but Rockstar chose not to proceed with the projects in mind. The poor reception of the Trilogy DE might be a reason behind that decision.” Another report from Kotaku confirms the same but says that Rockstar Games hasn’t shelved these remastered projects entirely. The reworked versions of these games will happen once GTA 6 comes out.
GTA 4 and Red Dead Redemption remastered versions on halt
The Kotaku report also says that Rockstar Games is focusing entirely on the GTA 6 project and wants to get it out as soon as possible. This is because the previous GTA Trilogy remastered editions had left and tastes among GTA fans and Rockstar wants to do some damage control as fast as it can. The sequel to the GTA 5 has been long overdue and Rockstar has been busy milking the 9-year old game across several console generations.
GTA 6 itself is rumoured to take players back to the realms of Vice City, which was last visited by the franchise in GTA: Vice City. Several leaks have given us ideas about a larger map than GTA 5, and the possibility of having a woman protagonist, which could be a first for the series. With GTA 5, the franchise floated the idea of having three protagonists back in 2013. GTA 5 has been around for a long time and it recently got its third generational update for Xbox Series X\S and Sony PS5.
Once GTA 6 releases, it remains to be seen how Rockstar plans to revamp the iconic GTA 4 and Red Dead Redemption. One of the best remastered editions of an old classic lately was Mafia: The Definitive Edition, which while keeping the same old story was a completely reworked game wit modern graphics and physics.
