After months of construction and significant delays, Econet Wireless, one of the leading telecommunications providers in Africa, has finally cleared payments for the remaining cell phone signal boosters in Kenya. This significant milestone will provide a much-needed boost to telecommunications infrastructure in the East African nation.
The project, which faced numerous challenges, was broken down into several phases, with the final phase involving six high-priority sites spread across the country. The sites were:
- Ahmed Ali – This site is located in North Eastern Kenya and is estimated to cost 23 million Kenyan Shillings.
- Ramadhan Oled – This is a new site, which has passed all guidelines, and the budget for this site is 17.2 million Kenyan Shillings.
- Everlyn Nanjala Sichangi – This site is awarded 12.5 million Kenyan Shillings and is located in the Chwele area.
- Samuel Nganga – Kitale Kenya site: This site is allocated 21.7 million Kenyan Shillings. An additional 4.5 million Kenyan Shillings has been requested to improve road access, drilling water wells, and installing electricity.
- Robert Wabomba – This site is located in Kibabii Tuuti b area and is estimated at 12.5 million Kenyan Shillings.
- Martin Mutoro – This site received an upgrade to 5G technology and is estimated at 17.2 million Kenyan Shillings.
The Director of Communications, Ms. Evelyn Peterson, based in London, United Kingdom, issued this report today.
The funds will be sent to the respective bank accounts of the beneficiaries next week. However, before the payment can be disbursed, the recipients are required to obtain clearance from their regional offices. The clearance will cost 150 Euros.
To confirm that the clearance has been obtained, the following documents will be issued:
- Clearance certificate from regional office
- Payment confirmation letter
- Receipt for clearance fee payment
