In the dynamic world of fashion, Andrea Morell isn’t just following the trends; she’s orchestrating a symphony where innovation, sustainability, and a dash of rebellion take centre stage.
Having pioneered interactive merch in her early career, Morell’s inspiration stemmed from her genuine love for music. Reflecting on her teenage years, she envisioned clothing as a means of self-expression. Her dream of a hoodie playing her favourite band’s latest album was more than a whimsical idea; it was a seed for her future commitment to blending fashion with personal expression. The tangible realisation of this vision came to life through creations intricately linked to artists’ Spotify profiles and playlists. Morell’s pieces transcended traditional garments, embodying a harmonious convergence of fashion and technology, providing individuals with a unique way to connect with their favourite music and artists.
Expanding on her dedication to merging fashion and technology, Morell unveiled her upcycled collection featuring 3D printed pieces, titled “Cyber Noir,” at Zagreb Design Week 2023. This collection not only made a fashion statement but also showcased her ability to harmonise sustainability with innovative design techniques. The runway show was opened by Marija Vukašina, Croatia’s representative for Miss Tourism in China.
With Marija set to compete in China this December, Andrea Morell crafted 3D printed jewellery of Croatian symbols – a nod to heritage and culture. From the iconic Bašća plaque to earrings inspired by Croatian folk embroidery, each piece is a tribute to the rich tapestry of Croatian identity. The 3D printed jewellery will take stage at the Miss World China competition’s charity auction. Each piece, a fusion of artistry and technology, will be auctioned, with the proceeds going towards supporting meaningful initiatives.
“At first, 3D printing was an abstract term. In my head, it was possible somewhere out there, certainly not in my room.” Reflecting on the journey, Morell admits and emphasises on the paradigm shift in 3D printing, once considered futuristic and distant, now finding a home within the intimate space of a designer’s living quarters.
Looking ahead, Morell is preparing to launch Freaks and Creeps, an interactive streetwear brand dedicated to rebels who triumph against all odds. This bold venture aims to extend the realm of interactive designs to everyday streetwear styles. Morell’s vision is to redefine how individuals express themselves through clothing, ushering in a new era where fashion becomes a canvas for personal narratives.
