Hollywood took over the New York Public Library. The Clooney Foundation for Justice, a nonprofit founded by George and Amal Clooney, honored human rights activists and journalists at its inaugural gala on Sept. 29, though the spotlight was on the big stars who walked the marble steps in sparkly gowns and black tie. Supporters included Dua Lipa, Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep, Gemma Chan and Aloe Blacc.
Movie stars also came out for the opening of the 60th New York Film Festival on Sept. 30. The premiere of Noah Baumbach’s “White Noise” at Alice Tully Hall was followed by a party at Tavern on the Green, where some wore outfits inspired by the film’s 1980s setting. And Carnegie Hall opened its new season on Sept. 29 with a gala featuring the Philadelphia Orchestra.
